Fellow Artisans,
It is August 3rd, and I am late to deliver your monthly makers’ memo. My sincerest apologies.

The Gallery soft launch was a smashing success… I particularly enjoyed the mocktail bar! (and the art, too, I suppose.) Hats off to the gallery volunteers and Patrick for their hard work! Their next exhibit, Cross Pollination, is now taking submissions.
Matt Petro DJ’d 5 weddings in 8 days! It’s wedding season!
~ I had ravioli for dinner ~
Gary won a minivan at a police auction (by accident?)! He intentionally bid on it, but he didn’t intend to win… He’s a month or two into renovations and fixes now. I suppose this is old news by now, but I thought it was funny nonetheless.
Somebody drove into Pat’s beloved hydrangeabush and didn’t bother to leave a note. Its remnants are in the gallery presently. Rest in peace, beautiful plant.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Matt Bajor says, “I’ve joined a new gallery called The Art Gallery (TAG) run by the New England Art Center in SoWa. We will be having an opening reception on Sunday, August 11 from 2-5pm at TAG which is located in the SoWa design district at 460 Harrison Ave suite 2C. It is on the garden level. I will be showing my work “Fading” and I believe Patrick Goguen will be showing too.” Here’s a link to the official flyer: https://www.instagram.com/p/C9h4wt-sCwh/ As a fan of both Matt’s and Patrick’s work, I’ll be there!
Doug Ruuska points out that the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race will be occurring on September 21st. Those with a discerning eye may spot our very own Nick Anastasia (of DigiFab lore) as one of this year’s judges! Doug says that this event captures the quintessential spirit of what Artisans Asylum is about. I agree.

The Door Store in Cambridge’s Central Square is closing after 70+ years in business. Wood furniture lovers may be pleased to pounce on their 50% off storewide promotion while they liquidate the rest of their stock. I met with Andrew, the store’s owner, today, who said that he is sad to see the store go but looking forward to retirement. With my gigantic hand, he is pictured below among a few of the many beautiful tabletops available for purchase. Contrary to its name, the Door Store doesn’t really sell doors; it mostly sells tables. Andrew said I should tell my friends to come buy up his tables. You are my friends, and you love nice carpentry, so I am hereby telling you to buy his tables.

Any fun weekend plans? Maybe some neat flowers you’ve seen recently? New restaurant in town? Please submit something to the Community Snippets (or announcements, if you’re being serious) here, so that I have more material: https://forms.gle/2VH93DPRb27cVfXm7.
Alternatively, you can always email me at juliennefho@gmail.com, but be sure to include “MMM” or “newsletter” in it so I can search my inbox easily.
If it isn’t interesting, don’t worry. Let me be the judge of that.
And that brings us to the end of this month’s MMM.
Peace, love, happiness, and air conditioning,
Julienne
